Welcome to Through Our Lens, an online photography exhibit by Street to Trail.
This exhibit highlights the discoveries of Street to Trail’s participants as they explored the North West region of High Park’s trail system through photography. While learning photographic principles of composition, colour, and abstraction, participants were invited to reflect on their experiences transitioning from city to nature. Our participants, most of whom have experienced homelessness, were invited to notice the positive effects of a day spent in the woods.
Gathering in community for a welcome circle, greeting each other, and acknowledging the traditional territories upon which we were located – those of the Anishnawbe, Haudenosaunee, Huron Wendat, and Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation – our participants learned methods within the language of photography to communicate their own ideas about experiencing nature and greenspace within our city.
Please take a moment to explore High Park through their eyes. Many thanks to our agency partners WoodGreen Community Services, Homes First, West Neighbourhood House, House Link, and Christie Ossington Neighbourhood Centre, to our instructor in photography – Paige White, volunteer Ruth Wilson, to our trip leader Kim Sedore, and to our sponsor, Park People, for making this happen.
