Street to Trail Log – April 25, 2018

Our core group of hikers at Woodgreen wouldn’t be scared off by a little bit of rain. We loaded up the van just after 10am and hit the road to explore Mountsberg Conservation area.

Everyone took a look at the map together and we made a rough plan on our direction. We detoured to check out the sugar bush and had to turn back because part of the trail was totally washed out but the flexibility and positivity of the group never waned.

Before leaving we explored the Raptor Centre and got to know some beautiful birds of prey, observed geese and ducks on the reservoir and went on a Buffalo hunt that yielded no Buffalo but a few horses instead.

See you next month, Woodgreen!

Street to Trail Log – April 24, 2018

Another outstanding day out with West Neighbourhood House! Our groups seem to grow every month and we always have a great time – no matter the weather. This month the weather was on our side as we headed out to Rattlesnake Point with a group of excited hikers.

We meandered along the edge of the escarpment, stopping regularly to take in the view and snap some pictures. We enjoyed a delicious lunch at a beautiful lookout point, laughed together, and took a break in the sunshine.

On our way back to the van, everyone adopted an animal name, helped each other out when needed, and stopped to watch the Turkey Vultures land in nearby trees.

See you next month, West Neighbourhood House!

Street to Trail Log – April 20, 2018

What a beautiful day for our inaugural hike with Sistering! Everyone was eagerly awaiting our arrival and once we filled every seat in the 12-passenger van we made our way to Crawford Lake.

The trail was still snow covered but the sun shone on our group as we made our way to the Nassagaweya Lookout. We enjoyed our lunches overlooking the canyon and observing the soaring Turkey Vultures now returned from their winter migration.

Making our way to the take in the views of picturesque, Crawford Lake we shared stories, and filled the quiet woods with laughter. Many photos and endless snacks later we made our way to the Iroquoian village to explore the interactive longhouses and exhibits.

Thanks, Sistering! Looking forward to next time!

Street to Trail Log – March 20, 2018

No better way to celebrate the first day of spring than by getting out of the city and exploring some new trails. That is just what Street to Trail and Woodgreen Community Services did on this blue skied March day.

Our group has been steadily growing and we took a full minivan of hikers out to Forks of the Credit Provincial Park to enjoy the sunshine, meadows, and shady forests.

The day was filled with laughter, a few grunts as we climbed the hilly terrain, and sharing of knowledge and stories. Woodgreen, it is always a pleasure and today was no different! Already looking forward to our next hike on April 17th.
